Swietenia mahagoni, commonly known as American mahogany, Cuban mahogany, small-leaved mahogany, and West Indian mahogany, is a species of Swietenia native to the broader Caribbean bioregion. It is the species from which the original mahogany wood was produced. (family Meliaceae).
It is a beautiful, stable wood that can be used to make furniture that cannot be made from any other type of wood (the favorite type of wood of Chippendale and his followers). It is also widely used in boat building. It is also used for certain musical instruments, especially the sound box of guitars. - straight structure-

Wood description
Durability of the heartwood is fairly high, the sapwood is not durable. Swietenia mahogany is red/orange in color with a fine grain with some darker markings. This is the old 'original' mahogany from which the more expensive furniture was made.
